Hardwood Flooring FAQs

Plain answers to common hardwood flooring questions about refinishing, installation, sanding, repairs, stains, finishes, timing, and service areas.

Can my hardwood floors be refinished?
Often, yes. If the boards are structurally sound and have enough wood left to sand, refinishing can make old floors look dramatically better.
How many times can hardwood floors be sanded?
It depends on the type of floor, its age, how much wood is left, and how aggressively it has been sanded before. Jared can inspect the floor and tell you whether it is safe to sand again.
How long does hardwood floor refinishing take?
Most projects take a few days, depending on square footage, repairs, stain choice, finish type, and drying time.
Should I refinish or replace my hardwood floors?
If the boards are solid, flat, and thick enough to sand, refinishing is usually the better first option. If the floor has major water damage, deep staining, structural issues, or too little wood left to sand, replacement may make more sense.
Can you match new hardwood to old hardwood?
Often, yes. Exact matches depend on species, age, board width, stain, and finish, but the goal is always a natural transition.
What finish is best for hardwood floors?
The best finish depends on the home, traffic, pets, kids, desired sheen, and maintenance expectations. Satin and matte finishes are popular because they look natural and tend to hide wear better than glossier finishes.
Can pet stains be removed from hardwood?
Some pet stains can be improved with sanding. Deep stains may require board replacement.
How soon can I walk on refinished floors?
It depends on the finish used. Jared will explain when the floors can be walked on, when furniture can return, and when rugs should go back.
Do I need to move furniture before refinishing?
Usually, yes. The work area needs to be clear before sanding and finishing can begin. Jared can explain what needs to be moved before the project starts.
